Wildflowers

Happy May day!

This week has been a week of wildflowers. We went for a woodland walk on the Saturday and came across the most beautiful patches of wildflowers. I picked a few, and plan to press them. The forget me nots were so lovely and growing in little clusters. I've been reading a little about the ancient folklore and mythology surrounding flowers.   In the Victorian language of flowers, the forget-me-not means friendship and loving remembrance.

On the Sunday afternoon we went for a walk along a canal that runs right next to an ancient woodland. The woodland was filled with wild garlic and bluebells. I've never seen so many pink bluebells! I've been reading a little about drying the flowers of bluebells, so that is something I'm hoping to try in the next few days before they're all gone!

A Light exists in Spring by Emily Dickinson

A light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period –
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay -
